Not a Dutch Vase

Not a Dutch Vase

Lovely capture Marjorie. The other was fine, but this is so much better.

Thanks Jim. Do you think anyone would say I made a big mistake? Or would they keep quiet? I feel happy enough about it myself so it's OK.

No indeed but a rather lovely still life. Subtle colours and good set up. You win Marjorie!

A good result, Marjorie. Love this...how well you've painted that glass.

If I were you I would have kept the Dutch Vase and made this a new one to avoid association and let it stand in its own right. But I am very pleased to hear that, like me, you instinctively know when you can do better and move on to try something else without beating yourself up about a loss or a win. You are getting better all the time anyway. So its always a win thing really.

Thanks Tessa and Lewis. Tim, I was itching to paint yesterday and sometimes it's easier to paint on top of a painted base - you've got the texture and I like seeing something new emerge out of something else.

Definitely not a mistake Marjorie......more like a triumph! Stunning colours, grouping and application.

I really liked the other one Marjorie but this looks equally good, nice depiction of the glass.

Yes I know that feeling, Marjorie.

Beautiful result, Marjorie. Is that some of the blue showing through from the underpainting? If so, nicely incorporated.

Love the decanter and the subtle colours, especially the use of the reddish brown colour Marjorie.

I like how you scratched through to the painting underneath, Is it meant to be copper or terracotta? Good job with the glass stopper.

You are pretty good at these.....

Thank you all! I lost a bit of the underneath but you never know how it's going to go - it's meant to be terra cotta David.

Like this very much Marjorie. I sometimes go over an older painting if I think of ways to improve it.

Great result, Marjorie, beautiful painting.

Lovely - love the glass and your varied background Marjorie

Lovely work Marjorie lovely painting

I did like the sunflower vase, but I also like the glass and textures in the white flowers, actually I find this more interesting so well done!

Well Marjorie, it's less complicated in its design for sure. I do like the colour combo used, a striking piece indeed. - I like it.

A lot simpler and still some of that lovely blue showing through. Love the glass decanter.

Lovely still life Marjorie

If you're happy then that's all that matters. Personally I think it's a fine piece. The terracotta colours and one little dab of cerulean is just lovely.

This is absolutely fabulous, Marjorie! I love the gorgeous palette, the lovely textures and wonderful use of shapes.

Thanks once again for all those interesting comments, Sandra, Cesare, Maureen, Dennis, Carole, Alan, Gudrun, Ellen, David, Andre and Seok! It really is a boost.

A lovely painting the lighting is superb
