Seems a waste of a good painting, assuming I've got it right...you're going to paint over this?

I like this and think it’s a really good subject and painting. Reprieve please! I agree with Lewis.

If you mean that you are abandoning this I do feel it has potential Marjorie, just the tonal values need work. However, you know best and I hope that you think of a new subject, I'm struggling for inspiration at the moment after 6 weeks away.

Love the Van Gogh sunflowered vase Marjorie I'm sure this tells a story?

I would be proud to have produced this painting but if you are unhappy with it, perhaps one of your marvellous bowls of flowers or fruit in the foreground on one of your crisp white linens would be an idea. If you kept the background as it is I think it could be a superb piece. I'm sure you'll come up with an ideal solution Marjorie.

This is just propped up on the floor in my "studio" ( my little " garret", tho' I certainly don't starve in it! Witness the chocolate wrappers ) but I digress. It was fun to do for the Van Gogh competition but what happens then? I've got loads of similar paintings, loved doing them all but you can't find a place for them all. What will happen to your VG paintings Alan? As I've said before, painting over something is quite freeing, you don't worry about spoiling , we'll see...but thanks for those comments.

Sounds like you are having a clear out like me Marjorie, trying to salvage some and giving up on others. I love this composition, I must have missed it if you posted it before, the vase is beautifully painted with that sheen on it, it seems such a shame to go over it but if you can use the canvas for other paintings at least it's not wasted 😀

Nice work Marjorie, it's too good to paint over!

I often paint ofver stuff and if you're unhappy with this good piece, do it Marjorie. Maybe don't paint over every centimetre and leave sparks of the colours here and there as a happy reminder.

I remember this from the competition Marjorie and thought at the time that it was a relevant theme of the great man, lots of hints and paint marks to represent his subjects and his style. I say put it to good use and paint the abstract wine glass stem you spoke about, there are some nice colours and shapes here already to set the scene. I have some canvas boards that have at least four paintings on them! Amazing how previous textures and colours come into play in the newest masterpiece...lol

I love some of the shapes in this, Marjorie. Particularly the brush angles, but I like the blues too. I’ll be interested to see the results of a new painting with some glimpses of this coming through.

Nice work Marjorie, as ever.

I Think as you might have well found out while doing this piece its not easy trying to paint is someone else’s style when one has a strong one of their own.

Lovely composition Marjorie and painting

I'd keep it the way it is. Well done!

I like it Marjorie and as to what to paint next I have 101 ideas, but you just have to find an idea that grabs you. I find scrolling through instagram there is always something that sparks an idea.

David, I've got an idea....it will involve the complimentary colours, broadly speaking, to this painting, so that when I let the colour peep through hopefully it will add something. I have lots of ideas stored on my i pad. Sometimes an old painting gives an idea. Now I've just got to get started.

Lovely work Marjorie every time same high standard, well done

I totally agree with the other comments. You know that feeling of 'I so wish I hadn't painted over the Dutch Vase!' I would buy a new canvas instead.
