Light through glass

Nice one Marjorie! Like a lot the oils pastels outcomes…lights and shadows!

Thanks Manoj. Light and dark always attract me as a subject.

Great light on the bottles

Lovely lighting ✨ lovely pastel work

Wonderful painting, Marjorie - love all the highlights, reflected colours and textures!

I can’t get on with them, it’s obviously me because this is excellent! You’ll have to do a demo for the e-newsletter… I’ve just sent a reply to your email of yesterday, my earlier reply didn’t send for some strange reason!

Lovely reflections and light passing through the bottles Marjorie.

Thanks everyone. Alan, the method is very different to that of dry pastels but I’ve begun to really enjoy using them. My next move is to get some chunky Sennelier pastels but I’ll have to wait until my preferred colours come into stock.

Such beautiful colour blending Marjorie, the black really gives it oomph!

I also cannot use these oil pastels, I create a total mess! Forgot to say, brilliant light and reflective effects.

This is brilliant Marjorie. Love the chiaroscuro effects and your palette of more sombre colours has worked a treat. Have been trying oil pastels out again and really starting to love them. Bought some Mungyo soft oil pastels from Amazon £13.99 for 24. They are so creamy and easy to use. Obviously they don’t have the vibrancy of Sennelier but are great to use on large areas and save using up all your Sennelier pastels.

Fantastic work, Marjorie. I wish I could use this medium. I make such a mess😊

Thanks Carole, Carole and Bob! And thanks for the tip Carole ( K). I, too, have some ‘“ cheapies” which I use as a base ( Gallery )and save my Sennelier for the “ oomph”. If you’d only used the cheaper ones with less pigment I think you’d be disappointed.

Absolutely amazing shine on the bottles.

Another super example of what can be achieved with oil pastels Marjorie. The black gesso really gives the painting depth, especially the background where the textures are evident. It also make the glass and light sparkle. I think we’ve had this conversation before regarding black gesso….lol.

Beautifully done.

I like these intense colours Marjorie, especially the blending of colours on the black background. Lovely work.

Lovely, super contrasts...I'm using oil pastels a little, too! They're wonderful to drawv into wc with!

Love it. Intense colour with this combination.

Fabulous pastel - really like the colours and shadows and the glass, well, stunning!

This is wonderful Marjorie, the depth of tone and colour you’ve achieved is excellent. A very striking still life.

Thank you Romila, Fiona ( yes, we love black), Chris, Dympna, Thalia, Lewis, Heather and Tessa! I found that as the sticks warmed up in my hand the colours became more free flowing. I think I said on another occasion Thalia that you wouldn’t have my problem😁….eeh it’s cold up north.

Excellent ,like the way you have drawn the bottles too

A splendid study of light, mood, textures and shapes. Beautifully done, Marjorie!

I love your oil pastel work, Marjorie. This one is fabulous. Like you, I use Sennelier. As a matter of interest, how do you seal them? My granddaughter told me at art college they use hair spray, because of the toxicity of sealants in the art rooms! I do use sealants, but I spray it outside, because of that reason.

Thank you for the comments Anne, Seok and Ellen. I haven’t sealed any, yet, Ellen. I was going to put them behind glass. I know you can buy special sealants but I’m a bit dubious because I don’t think oil pastels dry completely, unlike oils. As for hairspray…I can understand why students might use it ( cost etc) and for collecting a portfolio of their work but if you intend to sell I, personally, wouldn’t use hairspray. For the moment, if I want to hang any, I’ll put them behind glass.

Another fabulous painting Marjorie, I love how you create the light shining through the bottles.

Another winner! Terrific painting, Marjorie.

Love the different colour glasses.

Devine textural feel to this.

Oil pastel on black gesso covered board. Not as smooth a surface as I wanted. Need more oil pastels soon!
