So sweet Malcolm, they do construct such beautiful little homes. The wall is great.

Thanks Carole much appreciated

Great job Malcolm a really lovely work

Thanks a lot for that Dennis much appreciated

Nice placement of the stones in the wall Malcolm and also the hinted at wet in wet moss and lichen patches. I like how you have worked the nest using random pen marks, they have given it shape and form. A friend of mine dyes her own wool and in fine weather she hangs them on the washing line to dry out. A wren obviously quite liked the wool; colour, texture etc because a pair built a nest in one of the hanks and had a successful clutch of youngsters.

Thank you Fiona, the bricks were all made locally back in the old days our village use to have a brick works, everything around here was flood plain and so is all sand and gravel, all the buildings etc are brick built so there are lots of nice old brick. That was really interesting info about your friend and the wren thanks again

This little painting is based on a photo of a Wrens nest I found in an old garden wall a couple of years ago, I have made the nest a bit more prominent than it was simply because I think they are amazing constructions, there was also some shadows across the wall which I have ommited because I wanted the warmth of the old bricks to show, I will most probably revisit this now and put in the shadows and push the nest back into the cavity a little more.
