'Working Hard,' I imagine, refers as much to the artist as to the subject - but well worth the effort. The crisp lines and the detail are just stunning.

Fantastic Malcolm, amazing detail, love it.

Lovely, superb detail and can tell it was painted with a lot of admiration for these wonderful old steam engines

Amazing portrayal of the light on the engine. Excellent

Superb artwork, a detailed painting at its best, lots to look at but certainly not overdone.

simply gorgeous

I love this - well observed. I particularly admire all the straight lines in the structure - something I find hard to do.

Love it Malcolm great stuff.

Anyone watching this develop on the forum will know how much work has gone into this Malcolm, it has turned out superbly.

Always so good Malcolm.

A very fine piece of work, I enjoyed watching its progress on the forum.

Amazing detail in this, an absolute gem of a painting.

Just my sort of picture - superb.

Thanks to one and all for looking and making comment. Much appreciated. My plan will be to submit this for selection at the Guild of Railway Artists Spring Exhibition which will be at Kidderminster station from 9th April to 1st May 2022.

It’s all been said, a superb painting

'Hilda' an 0-4-0 Saddle Tank engine built in 1938 working hard towards the end of her life at the ex Cafferata & Co (Later British Gypsum) works in Newark. Here she is hauling a couple of battered and work worn old wagons around the works. The painting for me is much more about the real life of a lot of these workhorses, rather than the shiny mainline engines normally depicted. Watercolour on 200lb Hahnemuhle paper. Almost A3 in size. Painted using 'White Nights' Russian watercolours.
