I do prefer it without the wash, but that just personal preference. It feels moodier now.

I've got to say that this has turned out terrific Margaret. Just the right amount of detail with some good strong shadows. The addition of the wash was the right one. A work that you should be proud of. Will look great under an antique white mount - make sure it's squared up though!

I am with Alan on this - a stunning work which will look great in a simple profile frame.

I can see why the other one you saw as unfinished Margaret. The tones and shadows give this one life and character. White card mount and a slim black frame would be my personal preference, but it's a nice work whatever.

The wash adds so much. Looks good!

Well your first post was good but this is great, lovely dark atmospheric drawing, as Alan said great with a white mount 😀

I think the tonal washes have enhanced the drawing. I wonder if you have added a little too much detail, personal preference of course, I just thought it looked more eye catching on the gallery, when the detail is lost.

I have to agree that the wash has made a difference. I like the loose way you've applied it, and there's just a hint of cloud in that sky...unless my old eyes are mistaken.

Turned out Fanta Margaret, hats off to you!

This is some challenge Margaret but you've managed to produce a lovely piece of work so you must be very proud of this.

What a great sketch, I wouldn't have known where to start with that building.

A very fine piece of work Margaret

Gosh, Margaret! That looks a complicated building! I think your wash provides some interesting shadow shapes, but I think I prefered it without the wash,

Beautiful drawing, Margaret, I like tha washes too. I find they add atmosphere.

Thank you Jennifer :) moodier wasn't the intention but often seems to be result of my stuff!

Thank you Alan. I'm not sure if I'll be getting it mounted or not yet - it was just on cartridge and has buckled a bit under very wet wash. Squaring up could be a problem - original photo was taken looking down on it a bit - the road it is on is pretty steep and the church is actually on flat ground below the level of the road.

Thank you Michael, Jim, Louise, and Linda :) Thanks Stephen - I must admit I wondered a bit about the detail too :) Thank you Lewis :) you were right, there was a hint of cloud - actually it was blue sky with white cloud (for a change) but using a Payne's gray wash has made it look a bit moody! (however, it is Scotland!) Thank you Carole :)

Thank you Carole, Val and Russell :) Thank you Thalia :) It is complicated! I've wanted to paint it for a while but been a bit chicken. I'm a bit undecided about the wash myself. Thank you Cesare :) Thanks to everybody who commented on my originally posted "in progress" drawing - encouraged me to keep going. :)

A complicated subject Margaret and I have to say I think it’s fantastic! The washes are the icing on the cake, they have brought it alive. One of your best.

I should have said - this one is from one of my photos.

I nearly missed this beauty, Margaret. This is a super pen and wash, love it!

Wash added - not sure this was a good idea! Have also added the completed line drawing. A4 cartridge pad. This is a very attractive building in real life but I found it challenging - partly because it is built considerably below the level of the road (which is a fairly steep hill) and the unconventional architecture - some interesting angles!
