Thank you for your good comments Rachel and Sidra. I appreciate your picking up on the "light across the field," Sidra. That's what I was trying to do, i.e., create the spaces in the composition where I make the transition from cool to warmer in the graying sunset that is still alive enough to influence color values.

Thank you for your encouraging comment on palette and distance. I did try and break up fields into abstract shapes that work toward a good composition. I kept reworking this scene and eventually trashed it, because it didn't seem alive. But I will keep my palette and sense of distance in future landscapes.
