I've just been reading a book about Urban Sketching. I love the idea, and so last weekend when I was in Ieper, Belgium, I made a number of sketches. This is a simple graphite sketch of the Cloth Hall which I made sitting in a cafe a couple of hundred yards away. The Cloth Hall was originally begun in the 13th century. It was almost utterly destroyed during World War I, then rebuilt faithfully and eventually reopened in 1967. Today the Cloth Hall houses the fantastic In Flanders Fields Museum, and I can heartily recommend a visit if you are ever nearby.
