Tree trunks

Tree trunks

Hi Lionel....I can see what you are aiming for, and yes, I think more tree trunks would give the depth/recession you need here. Love your brushwork, I would suggest you try to get more tonal contrast in....go for the darks, and don't be frightened of them; they bring a work to life....

Agree with Ruth. The blue patch looked interesting, if you can put another patch on the left side. Good luck!! .

I just like it as it is. Although there a lot of trees, it is still light and airy with beautiful colours.

Thank you Eddy and Thea for your comments; they are always highly valued. And yes, Ruth, your analysis is spot on, particularly with respect to not being frightened of the dark. lol :) I do think though that the lighting may have flattened out some of the tones. Nevertheless, you are correct and I will try to apply your advice in the next one.

I like the colours ,the trees in the far background (the thinnest) I would thicken slighly and the tree just right of centre seems rather thicker on top than at the bottom, that said the way you have painted the trees and background is really lovely.

Wonderful design and colours. So attractive!

Thank you William; you are correct and I am going to try to correct these elements. Thank you, as well Beatrice, for your lovely comment.

I'm not really satisfied with this; it is not what I intended. It is too "open". Not enough trunks I suppose. I'll have another go. Still, I will be interested in any comments that might be forthcoming......of any kind. The background blue, by the way, is nothing like that intensity on the painting. Could the halogen lights have anything to do with it?
