I'd be pleased too, it's turned out very well Lewis

I understand what you mean by the architecture Lew, nonetheless, you’ve pulled the main character off a treat as usual!

You may not like th backgrounds, but compared to the basic sketch you posted recently, it has really brought this to life.

A superb character fronting a great backdrop, you are been tough on yourself Lew .

Looks brilliant Lewis. Good job.

Love this, great composition, and I like the fairly limited palette.

Excellent artwork Lew , Sherlock is superb.

I keep repeating this Lewis but it is a truly exceptional painting. This is how I've always imagined Sherlock to be, such an intense look.

Thanks to everybody for your comments. Always appreciated. I’ve had several goes at Sherlock, I didn’t want to copy an actor. So far, I like this one best.

I think you have got him exactly right.

Absolutely superb, Lewis!

That face wow! Could that be Watson in the corner?

I agree with Paul- you’re too hard on yourself. This is a superb painting Lewis, main character and the background.

instantly recognisable Lew. In my mind the architecture is of less importance than the characters, but the street furniture adds great detail.

It's terrific Lewis, the street scene is the perfect backdrop and pushes Sherlock even further to the fore.

He looks inscrutable Lewis, a character brought to life.

omg, that's amazing, !!

Well he looks a pretty shrewd character with an air of authority Lewis. The city backdrop falls away nicely and could that be Watson wearing the brown suit in the background I wonder?

Certainly created a narrative Lew. This is super with the intense look and the street behind

Great job, Lewis. Your Sherlock looks exactly like he was. At least in my eyes. :-)

Finally got this done. Gone a little astray here and there. There was no 221b Baker Street when Conan Doyle wrote the Sherlock stories. So a fictional character and a fictional address. As is my way, with hindsight, I tend to wish I'd done it differently. I based this on a Victorian photo of Baker Street, which, to be frank, was a little boring. Overall, I'm reasonably pleased with it.
