That’s smashing Lewis. A new council house and a telly were the two greatest things for our family too.

Weetabix and Lew what’s not to like .

Another great slice of history.

Never lived in a council house growing up Lew, ( did much later for a while )just a two-up, two-down, no bathroom in chimney-pot land. All the rest rings bells without trying. Our telly was a Pye Black Box that we didn't get till I was seventeen, and in time for Six Five Special and Oh Boy on Saturday tea times.. Lovely memories.

Ooh love it! Great memories and well done on your prize Lew :)

Great social history account that most of us can relate to. The one redeeming feature of my early years was the wonderful stretch of isolated, beaches where I would take out my frustrations and rants, to be rewarded with a sense of calm. Great therapy, especially when I realised how wonderful it would be to paint the surrounding scenery on old bits of cardboard, painted over with whatever household paint was around. So my love of art began. Beautiful illustrations Lewis.

Thanks again for the comments and your own memories. Yes Jim, the TV was a big thing with us...especially Dad. I can relate to what you say Carole K, I used Greenwich Park, which for most of the time covered by this, was never far away. I've mentioned it a few times. I'd go and stomp around when I had the hump about something. It was a beautiful park...still is. If I were a landscape artist I'd have painted it several times by now...especially Greenwich Hill in the park...it overlooks the Thames.

It’s a labour of love Lewis and fascinating memories all round. We didn’t have a telly til I was in my teens as my dad refused to have one in the house, much to my disgust! Hard to imagine now.

Another brilliant page we can all relate to, Lewis. So enjoying your early life story!

This has certainly brought many memories back for lots of us Lewis, it's so good reading about those "good old days" and you draw it so well.

I'd forgotten about Radio Rentals...Great story again Lewis. Well done on the prize. I'm sure you could win many more with your current style. Fabulous.

I haven't been commenting for a while Lewis so doing some catching up. Your stories of your life are excellent. I love them all and brought back a lot of my own memories, some similar to yours. Thank you for that.

A fairly easy page for reasons that will be obvious. Mike commented on an earlier page that he thought the 'O' levels took place in the 5th form (I'd said the 6th)....he was right...I knew from the start I'd get a few things wrong. My book prize clearly states I was in the 5th form. I didn't think to look at it. I was briefly in the 6th form when I decided to leave. Not much more to do now. I'm glad I decided to do it in a quick sketchy style. There'll be about 200 drawings by the time it's done...had I labored over each one, I'd have probably given up by now.

About the Artist
Lewis Cooper

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
