Two more great characters, Lewis. Do you know what you want to do before you start, or develop the characters as you go?

Seth- in the sketchbook, if they're not for a picture I'm planning, they develop as I go...the only thought for the left dwarfish figure was I'll make his overall body shape almost square. I very loosely pencil in the main shapes to see how they'll fit the page (no details), then I take it from there with a pen or brush.

You're main strength I think Lewis (drawing and painting apart) is expressionism and the ability to portray mood. They're not just drawings, you make your characters live. Lovely work.

Like the one on the right Lewis, which football team does he support 😂😂😂

Quite apart from anything else, you're adept at imagining and drawing clothes - in so many of your drawings and paintings, the wardrobe displays little touches of wonderment: an usual clasp, or cut; shoes; gaiters; hats; different textures of cloth that really seem to suit your multiplicity of characters. To such an extent that I wonder a) if you've actually studied costume, b) if your actual wardrobe is crammed with immaculately cut suits and other garments of distinction.... Do people point to you in the street, and tell their children 'There, now look at that nice Mr Cooper! Always beautifully turned-out: model yourself on him, and get rid of those horrible low-slung jeans!' At which point, one imagines you gracefully just tipping the Homburg, giving the closely-furled umbrella a jaunty flourish, gazing modestly down at your highly polished brogues, and continuing your customary stroll to the paper shop for the morning's Times...

Thank you all for looking and the feedback, always welcome. Robert - when I look at movies, illustrations etc, I find myself looking at costume ends and ends...many of the odds and ends I draw wouldn't serve the purpose. As for your point (b)...drat, I've been unmasked. You'll have to excuse me now, I'm away to iron my socks.

can see Spike Milligan in the one on the left and after reading some of the "have your says" on BBC sports can see where Linda is coming from.

They're great Lewis and what a brilliant 'comment' from Robert too.

The drawings/ paintings are as usual fabulous. But now that I know you iron your socks, is it any wonder your pictures are always so complete in their details.! I shall put your name forward for best dressed artist.

Jim is absolutely spot on with his comment, Lewis. Your characters are immensely alive. Mood is throughout your work!

Great as usual Lewis.

Wonderful characters Lewis, I wouldn't like to meet either in the dark!

Reminds me of Chess Lewis. A pawn and maybe a bishop.

Drawn with a paintbrush & watercolour on the left....pen and ink on the right. Far quicker with a brush, but I like pen and ink. Not for anything, just drawing whatever came into my head.

About the Artist
Lewis Cooper

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
