Sadly any old thing will do theses days Lewis. One could write a thesis from this image. Super set of characters here.

Also not a lover of his music although some pieces are reasonably enjoyable - must look up his art. love the cartoon - I posted a cartoon here a wile back of a blank painting and called it 'Minimalist' In this one shouldn't the red 'sold' spot be in the corner? lol On a serious note this is yet another superb piece of work - I always look forward to seeing your work in the gallery.

In this world filled with doom and gloom, thank you for making me smile-regularly!! Apart from that Lewis you have great drawing skills, wonderful composition and use of colour. Please keep posting!

Absolutely stunning Lewis, and I do love the name you've given the "artist".

Thank you all for your super comments. And Micheal, your notion that the painting in my picture, with a red 'sold' spot on it is much better than my idea (a painting of a red dot). I wish I'd thought of that.

It hits the nail on the proverbial head. The characters obviously have the right idea about the work of art. You might want to try the same subject with ecstatic art critics.

You are so right Lewis, just this weekend in a papers magazine there was a piece of art pictured and it had three black brush strokes down the centre on a white background. Your picture is again very amusing and i love the expression on their faces 😀

Somebody on another forum (not art) called art critics "chin on handers" ..this could be that illustrated. Nice work Lewis. (-:

Great expressions once again , in a topical subject. Remember thinking about the black square, which is now priceless...all subjective.

Wonderful Lew.

Verklaerte Nacht was the only listenable-to piece of music that came from Schoenberg for many of us; and certainly for me. Perhaps his opinion made more sense in the original German, though I doubt it. While there's a long discussion to be had about all this, the point here is that I like your painting, and as always admire your drawing skills. And I'm not going ANY deeper than that, because I can sense a row before I fall into one.

Topical, funny and extremely well done Lewis.

Well, Robert. The poem Schoenberg based his composition on actually makes a lot of sense. However, his work was originally rejected with the words - it sounds like somebody smudged the music of Tristan with a damp cloth.

You should be in " Punch" Lewis!

Your work is so much fun Lewis it gives me so much to smile about, and brilliantly done. keep them coming.

Superbly done Lewis as always, love the characters!

Love it, fun and colourful!

Love their expressions and how true it sometimes is :)

I put this into a competition that's closed now. So I thought I'd post it. The idea came from a suffocatingly self important quote by Arnold Scheonberg (composer and artist). A shortened version of his quote is...'art isn't for everyone, when it is, it isn't art.' I hadn't realized he painted, when I googled him, I realized he was getting his defense in first. (I don't like his music, either...just my opinion).

About the Artist
Lewis Cooper

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
