Homage to Raymond Briggs (Who died yesterday).

I thought I'd join Andrew in his tribute to Raymond Briggs, the great illustrator of 'Snowman' fame. Raymond died yesterday. This was posted a while back, it's a response to one of Dawn's challenges. You had to guess the book the picture illustrated. I chose 'Fungas the Bogeyman', but made NO ATTEMPT to copy Raymond's characters...that would have made it too easy. A great man, and one of my favorite artists. I've done a piece on him in the forum.

I love your spin on things and good to see this again.

Lovely tribute Lewis to this wonderful creator.

Lovely tribute Lew. I’ve just seen your piece on the Forum and commented there.

Great tribute Lew.

A great tribute, R.I.P. Raymond.

If he is looking down I am sure he will have a chuckle Lew.....interestingly he didn't like children.

Don't know of him, but may he rest in peace.

He invented a genre, really, didn't he? Some of his work was just out-and-out funny, but much of it held a deeper meaning, and message for those inclined to recognize it. There was a lot of sadness in his work - the recognition of everyday life as a struggle for most of us, in which limitations are imposed on us but the 'mustn't grumble' attitude either carries us through or beats us down. Maybe we should grumble much more, and strive to change things - but there's a certain nobility is just 'carrying on carrying on'. He caught that exactly.

A great tribute Lewis to a brilliant writer and illustrator. Brilliant artwork!

Wonderful piece of work.

Excellent artwork and tribute, Lewis!

He produced lots of thought provoking stuff but “The Snowman” was , for me, one of the best. Pure magic yet with humour. I remember one of my grandsons had to watch it every time we looked after him, even during the summer!

Good work and a good laugh, Lewis!

A great tribute to a very gifted artist who gave us so much pleasure, especially with ‘The Snowman’.

Great tribute to a wonderful illustrator.

About the Artist
Lewis Cooper

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
