I wouldn’t beat yourself up over the lines Lew , they look ok to and let’s face it far younger people have more problems with drawing lines . I actually like this it’s different from what you normally , but it’s still done really well and with skill.

Just because it didn't end up the way you had wanted doesn't devalue it in any way. A definite like from me, especially the hair.

I like it too. As Tony says, the hair is really well done and interesting.

I liked it straight away Lew…anything art deco can’t be bad! I’m the same now regarding straight lines, hence my scribbles which contain multiple lines - I’ve had to adapt. Ruling pens can be useful, a bit tricky to get used to and you do need a good quality one. The cheap Jakar type make don’t work!

Love the art of the Deco period, this is excellent Lew .

Thanks for your comments. Alan, I’ve never heard of a ruling pen. But on looking them up, I found I do know them. Had a set many moons ago. Might be the way to go if I want to continue with this type of picture.

Glad you did show her Lew…she is rather beautiful.

Very different for you Lewis. A very striking effective image. The lines look fine to me.

A fabulous image Lewis, I love how you've done her hair too. As for straight lines I've always struggled with them!

I really like it Lewis.

A very striking image. I like it a lot Lewis.

Glad you did Lewis, there's nothing wrong on those lines and I agree with Tony, that hair is particularly good

Very stylish Lew, and I would have assumed the lines were as intended if you hadn’t said anything!

I like it – she‘s lovely.

Love Art Deco, and this is really striking, Lewis. As the focus is on the face, I didn’t notice the lines, think they look fine.

Thanks to all again. I liked it but knew I’d made a mess of the lines, being aware of that was disappointing, but it seems most of you aren’t too bothered. That’s why it’s Worth posting the ‘iffy’ ones, you get a fresh view on it.

Fabulous Lewis even if it's not considered to be at good as you like

Superb colour balance and use of shapes Lewis. Eye catcher.

Whatever your concerns about this Lewis, I wouldn’t worry about it, you’ve got the message across. I can’t do straight lines either these days, but I just remember the words of Alwyn Crawshaw, “it’s all part of it” and carry on.

Attempting Deco style, but the straight lines on the background shape defeated my old hands. This requires more work, but I've accepted it's got away from me...thought I'd show it anyway.

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
