I like this Steven, its full of life and the ship is really rocking in that wild sea.

I agree with Stephe, eye catching painting Steven

An amazing painting

Stunning atmospheric sky and the whole painting has a beautiful glow about it.

Stunning a beautiful painting

That sea actually seems to be moving - if you look at one side of the painting, you'd swear the other side was heaving: turn to look at it, and the same thing happens the other way round.... And I'm not even drunk. Powerful stuff, and I like the mix of media.

This is amazing, Stephen. I am very impressed by the atmosphere of this. Your colours are stunning and the whole painting is moving. I live at the coast and know the sea can be like that. I agree with all the other comments, this is just perfect!

Sorry about the spelling of your name, it should be Steven!!!

An amazing painting Steven, Robert is right about the sea it has a life of it's own.....spookily so!!

Great painting Steven! For me, the sky is the key. The sky points straight at the ship and the sea stops the eye from from leaving the painting and loops round to the sky again. Well done

Dramatic and beautiful, I love it.

Very good composition, good drawing but Sea suspended as in waves would not be as dark and some greens added would be more covincing, your attention to the wind is lacking, it is blowing from behind the ship in the sails but the pennant is blowing sideways, the sea on the other hand has the wind from the right. Sorry about this but I am a painter with a boat and you will find if you look at the paintings of people like Geoff Hunt and those who really know, they get the details right. We can only improve. Regards. JD

Hm. It's an iconic sort of painting - strict adherence to local colour isn't the point. The direction of the wind: well, you've got me there. I was going to argue that the wind might have come from the left, but no ... that doesn't quite work. Crosswinds? Even so, again - this isn't supposed to be a photographic representation of a real ship: I think you're looking for an accuracy which the subject doesn't really demand. You'd like to get these points right - and I agree with you about that. And yet, I think the painting works in its own terms. Maybe the artist would take your points on board - as it were - next time, though.

Thanks to you all for your great comments. As to the accuracy of wind direction etc I leave that to the artists that are interested in creating a true to life representation of the scene. I am more interested in creating the mood , atmosphere and drama.
