I used to live near the Norfolk Broads, where there were a lot of Herons. This is a fine example of one of them. Great feathering detail.

Very different technique and feel to the other heron painting on the page today, but beautifully done, in the medium I find most difficult, and conveying again that look of serene but intense concentration on the matter in hand. They look big enough, these birds, even when standing still - on the odd occasions they fly overhead where I live now, it's like a flying mattress blotting out the sun: we have a couple on an inaccessible slope behind the house ... I presume they do move about between their own area, but you so rarely see them in flight that when they do fly, it's always something to behold - huge wingspan.

Really good, love the soft background which throws the heron into sharp relief and the feathers are very well drawn
