Wonderful eyes Kim - you have inspired me to do more portraits - a pleasant change from snails!

I thought you had forgotten us as we haven't had a posting from you for quite a while - you've been missed! This is an amazingly good portrait - the weariness in the eyes is beautifully portrayed and I love the strong brushwork which helps to convey the obviously determined character that he was.

Very expressive portrait, Kim. Those eyes hold us

Brilliant! I can only agree with all that's been said.

I'm very grateful for your feedback. I like this too - can't quite decide why, but it works for me. The man was an absolute hero, the likes of whom we don't see too often.

An excellent piece, Kim - you'e certainly captured the fatigue, as well as the vitality of the man.

On 1 November 1911 Charles Wright was a member of Scott's team that set off for the South Pole. However, seven weeks into the journey, he was in the first supporting party to be sent back. Scott never returned. It was later Wright, as a member of the 8-man search party, who first spotted the tent containing the bodies of Scott, Wilson and Bowers. This portrait shows the young Wright after the heroic 5-week return journey when Scott sent him back to Cape Evans.
