Mick, are you on Facebook? I’m not but Julian mentioned to me that there are a few HMS Ganges groups. One, which is headed HMS Ganges Mast, not sure if it was set up to save the mast there, which is grade two listed now. You might be interested, all ex Ganges boys on there having a natter. Do they have a group for Raleigh?

Portrait of an ex Ganges Boy, in his day, who told me later in life, ‘I’ve been a sailor and an airman in the military, I’ve been a copper - you get to know a man whose word is his bond. You’re one of those men and I trust you implicitly’. ‘Wooooo’ I retorted, ‘Had Yer hosses. I’m no male-bonder, rather a female bonder’. Graphite Pencil.

I was born in 1946. In the 1960s and part of the 70s I was an airman in the Royal Navy, Fleet Air Arm. I joined Durham Constabulary in 1971. In 1999 I retired from policing and began teaching sociology and criminology at Durham University with emphasis on policing and researching crime. I am drawn…
