Love this painting. Colours are beautiful

I know this stretch of Sussex coastline well and think this colourful and imaginative treatment is superb with the way the colours are so skilfully blended. I would be interested to know the dimensions and make of the paper used.

Really lovely, such beautiful colours and the cliffs are great.

Hi Roger, I don't have a note of the paper, but think it was Sanderson's Waterford rough, 300lb. The dimensions are 55 x 36cm. It's a wonderful bit of coast, and always has the drama that sets me wishing to paint, whatever the weather! Thank you Yve and Carole for your comments - much appreciated. Kezia

what an interesting painting. i really like the use of colour to bring you into the focal point of the dark rocks at the base of the ciff.

Superb gallery. I particularly like this painting. Reminds me of childhood rambles over the downs.

It was a good idea to add the yellow and green washes - they really bring the painting to life, and turn it from a competent landscape painting to a vibrant one.

Yes I agree an interesting painting that works

Even when I use a photograph for reference, I find that, without any intention, certain features change - shapes or colours are exagerated or reduced - my perception is not the same as that of the camera! In this case, the colours looked boring, as although it was a bright, windy day, the sea and sky were hardly included. Taking a deep breath I swept a large brush of first a yellow and then a green wash over the picture left and right, and then dropped in some white gouache in the top right hand corner to liven things up.
