A large hanging basket outside a terraced house casts a long, slanting shadow across the yellow-painted facade of the house next door. I love painting shadows like this. The trick, I find, is to keep the shadow wash really fluid and work fast, using the glaze technique. If you labour it, you run the risk of loosening the underlying paint. Sorry for the slightly blurred pic.
