Aye ah ken whit it means! Brilliant work Ken, every bit as good as your fantastic buildings, love the guy on the drums, have seen them in Edinburgh and recently in Glasgow where they always attract a large audience.

I should like to see and hear these lads in action, but Scotland's a bit of a way for me to go - excellently represented in your watercolour: a strong work for strong characters.

No need to translate . I really like this- what characters! I always wanted to play the pipes. I just love them.

Plenty of vitality ; great painting.

Great watercolour and lovely composition Ken, beautifully painted

You've caught those two characters perfectly, I can almost hear the noise of their drums and pipes.

Thanks for these comments, folks, I've noticed you're all very generous in praising my work. To pick up on a point Robert made about these being strong characters, I'd just like to add that I have a feeling that the bloke with the drum isn't someone I'd care to cross!

I agree with everyone. You have conveyed the characters brilliantly. The intensity in the eye's of the drummer, I know what you mean about not wanting to cross him & the stance of the piper caught to perfection. So difficult particularly in watercolour. Lovely!

I know I'll have to explain the title. In Scots to give something laldy means to put maximum effort into it. These street entertainers (members of a larger group) were charging around an open space in Edinburgh city centre with drums booming and bagpipes roaring at top volume. I don't often do pure figure work. I loosened my usual style just a tad for this one.
