Red Door And Black Dress

For me it works perfectly. The door no doubt would have looked good, but adding the the woman adds a bit of narrative, and life always has a story to tell. Beautifully painted also I might add.

Works perfectly Ken. She does bring some energy to the scene and placing her bulls eye also adds more impact (in my opinion). That red door is just lovely. Splendid work.

Lovely painting, lovely door; she doesn't seem bothered!

I love the figure included because it is done so well. In fact the whole painting is so skilful Ken.

I'd have to describe this as an ambiguous sort of a painting and I chose a title to reflect that characteristic. The doorway belongs to a grand house in the New Town of Edinburgh. Originally it was all that I planned to paint and personally I'd have been happy with that. Then I remembered that some people find paintings of doors boring although I can't imagine why. The idea of adding a figure passing by came like a revelation. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't - I'm not sure. I'd be grateful for opinions.
