Bougainvillea, straggling across the whitewashed wall of a church at Mesa Gonia, on Santorini, casts ragged diagonal shadows across the wall's surface. It's only a very simple subject, but I love to paint shadows like these. My little granddaughter nearly destroyed the painting right at the start by dragging a finger through the wet sky wash before I could stop her, but I managed to rectify the damage! (I'll watch her more carefully next time - but I really don't want to put her off because I think she's showing signs of artistic ability.)
