Lovely sense of depth here, and I agree the float is essential. A super painting.

Well done. And just the right number of boats too although experts have it that objects should come in uneven numbers.

Very powerful watercolour Ken, i thought it was an oil painting at first. To get that depth of blue and still be fairly transparent is quite an acheivement.

Yes it is a very good render for the deep blue water and it does contast with the boats (especially the orange-opposites on the colour wheel). The float is good also as it balances the mooring posts. Did you paint this from a photograph as the water does appear darker than usual (but it's still good).

Thanks everyone for the positive comments. In reply to Robert, I both sketched and photographed the scene from a dockside cafe. The note on my sketch says "water very dark here - looks like ink!". Which is odd, because it was a beautifully sunny afternoon as I remember.

Love the impact, pallet and detail, but congratulations on the skill of laying down a wash of this deep tonal intensity.

Lovely pair of boats on the sea Ken, super colours

This pair of Greek fishing boats was in the main harbour of the island of Symi, close to Rhodes. What attracted me was the inky-blue water contrasting with the bright paintwork of the boats. I omitted other boats to left and right but kept the yellow float in the top right corner. Small though the float is, to me it seems essential to the balance of the composition. (Cover it with a fingertip and you should see what I mean.)
