I would really love to know something about this painting...it reminds me of the backwooods in Canada many years ago, where women cut the wood, kept the hearth warm, fed the hordes of kids and neighbours, tended the vegetable plot, and in general, kept things going.

Hello Ruth, thank you for visiting my gallery :) I was browsing through the library one day and came across News clippings of the Lynch Sisters, There were actualy 4 sister's, but this was a photo of two of them, they were well known in this region (Gympie QLD) and were the only women at that time to actualy run their fathers timber milling business (logging), they did every thing that the men did from tree felling to carting the logs by horse and cart with chains, and they did it all in the dresses of that time including those petticoats, must off been very hard for them and hot, they are actualy quite famous here, there were 10 children, the 4 sisters were the oldest and known as quite stubborn and determined and would refuse any help from any one at all, I just admire them so much as in those days it was hard enough living an ordinary womans life with out taking on timber milling, and they still managed to continue doing all of the above that you mentioned. I hope you found it as inspiring as I did, :).

I certainly do find it fascinating reading, Karleen, thank you for thr the information. Us womenare pretty amazing on the whole, aren't we!! Survival of the species, eh?!! Regards and thanks for your comments on my work- Ruth
