It’s a superb piece, love the detailing it’s all really good especially the tree and walls . You do draw sheep particularly well.

Thank you very much Paul. I did enjoy doing it and the sheep were fun- always trying to get away from where they were supposed to be going!

I love this scene and how you have painted it Julie.

A lovely opportunity to capture the farmer in his daily work. Will you show some of your stone barn sketches as well? Really nicely painted with great patience capturing those stone walls and the distance work is especially good.

Thank you very much Shaun. Glad you like it.

Thank you very much Tessa. I did wonder about that. I have two sketches from that evening but wasn’t sure how to put them on here. I’m thinking I’d have to add each one as a separate thing but they are only sketches 🤔

Stunning work Julie, great composition, perspective and palette. Great work on those sheep and distant hills - wonderful painting

Fabulous Julie, how long did this take you?

Such a good painting, I really like it !

You could add your sketch to the Sketch a day thread on the forum and explain how you did them etc .

Superb painting Julie, really well done.

A great painting, the sheep are so good!

Thank you so much Frank. I really appreciate your comments.

Thank you so much Heather. I would guess I spent about an hour on the initial sketches back in late November, then Christmas got in the way. It was February before I had a chance to re- start it. I spent 2 weeks working on it, in the afternoons.

Thank you for taking the time to comment Valerie.

Oh thank you Paul- I’ll have look for that.

Thank you so much for commenting Stephen. I do appreciate it.

Thank you so much Lynda. I’m glad you like it.

Tessa and Paul. I’ve added my initial sketches on location to Sketch a Day in the forum. I can’t work out how to rotate them!

A truly beautiful painting, Julie.

Great sheep and a lovely pastoral scene Julie.

Thank you so much David. You’re very kind.

Thank you very much indeed Carole. I’m glad you like it.

Thank you very much Sylvia.

Thank you very much for commenting Cairistiona.

Nicely done Great composition

Thank you very much Lou.

This painting is beautifully executed. Wonderful composition. I am particularly drawn to the design and palette of the distant hills behind the shed. There is a gentle tranquilness to them in contrast to the moving, dramatic sky. Two paintings in one here.

Hi Lynne. I’ve only just seen your lovely comment. Thank you so much and I’m glad you like it.

Oil on board 16x20 inches. During a visit to Hartington, Derbyshire, we were out walking above the village in the late afternoon. I was sketching a series of small stone barns when the farmer brought this small flock of sheep out in order to move them to a different field for the night. Begun on location and completed later at home.
