Over a Giant Beating Wing
Carried out a number of years ago but at last a very first chance to let rip with a palette knife and oil on real canvas! These are large - about 5' X4', and I had a fun time! The subject matter means a lot to me, being in the area of West Yorkshire which I chose for a studio location for many years. I'm fascinated by the land patterns and the strong shapes left by old industry in mill towns and villages scattered over the hillsides. This will always be a rich source of material for me. The subject is the little village of Sowerby, seen on the skyline in the picture. I wanted to communicate the wonderful patterns I noticed . That day the sunlight was so strong that it appeared to set part of the hillside on fire!
