Curlew Over Hurst Brow
After discovering this medium and its possibilities when working on a huge mural in a school hall, I started to find it greatly liberating during my experimental phase. While working on this lovely view of a tiny Hamlet called Snowgate (pronounced Snugget!) Head between Huddersfield and Holmfirth, high in Pennine West Yorkshire, I was inspired to include an animate object in one of my landscapes for the first time. This painting was completed largely en plein air. Acrylic is a wonderful medium for the artist who doesn't drive, as one's work is likely to survive the bus journey home! I enjoy using this medium in a series of glazes, using calligraphic brush strokes and steadily refining the shapes within the painting.
