I have never tried guash as medium on its own. Love the grass in the foreground. Can not say I am sure about the background, and the houses they feel a bit flat. But maybe it is just me.

I'm inclined to agree, Olga - I was very pleased with the grass, but not sure about the buildings and background, Jo

Agree, the background could do with a little more work, but I like the windswept impact of the painting as a whole, and would certainly encourage you to use gouache more.

I can almost smell the rich grasses and hear the clanking of the rigging of boats moored just behind me as I worked away - en plein air, of course!. Bank Ground Farm was where Arthur Ransome started to write his classic 'Swallows and Amazons' stories, and the farm is the subject of many drawings and paintings. I am much better pleased with the looser style of this painting. as I was now beginning to gain confidence again, using gouache to extend the possibilities of the medium
