At the Amber Fort

I agree, they are used as a beast of burden, but on my recent trip to India, I hardly saw any elephants part from the ones you have depicted at Amber fort. Previously (1986) I saw a lot of other elephants used for construction and civil engineering. So I have mixed feelings about the elephants of India. Apart from those used as tourist attractions, they fear extinction.

A colourful painting though. I feel that the shadows of the elephants could be improved by making them darker, near the feet. This would fix the elephants on the ground. Perhaps a little more light and shade on the elephants skin too, to make them more 3D.

Actually Linda I only saw one other on this trip. I was in southern Inia some years back and you are right they were much more common then.

Thanks for the good tips. I'll act on them.
John

Oil on canvas 14x11 inches (35x28cn). This is from a photograph I took at the Amber Fort in India. I have always liked elephants and I know they have been used as beast of burden in India for centuries but I couldn't help feeling sorry for them.
