I don't normally use acrylic but since this was to be another poppy picture I decide that acrylic had some attributes that would be useful. You can use them like water colours which is how I did the basic background and like oils which is how I did the rest of the painting. I did a couple of poppy pictures last year and they were very well received so I thought I'd see how this one went. With the poppy petals I used a yellow under painting as it shines through the red a little giving it that slight lightness that poppies have as the light catches them.
