Biography

The need to create art runs in my family. My father taught me about perspective pre-school. When I was a child he was known for painting murals on our back yard wall. Though I have painted for most of my life over the last couple of years I have been lucky enough to paint almost full time. My preference is oils but I also use acrylic at times and of course water colour for sketching. Often an oil painting will start out as a water colour sketch as I work out composition, etc. My main influences have been JMW Turner and the French impressionists, especially Monet. I have been to Honfleur in Normandy a number of times and get a lot of pleasure from sketching there. Not all of them end up as an oil painting but they often contribute. I have also visited Monet’s garden in Giverny number of times and have done a number of water colours of those so familiar views.
