Romantic Venice

I think we are having a bit of a Venice fest between us! Totally different to my rendition and very interesting to see Venice painted in a different style. Your painting is so vibrant, rich in colour and with super night light. Now I REALLY want to go there!!

my favourite part of this painting John is the sky :-) it is so magical and awe inspiring, mysterious :-) with a lovely silhouette of a building at the very end of the painting :-) i really think this is a lovely painting. Apparently, i have heard the water smells very bad when you are in the Gondolas, which is sad, it is due to pollution being shoved into the water. Have you visited Venice? I wonder if the water really does stink :-p

Glad you like it rebecca. I visited Venice in October a couple of years ago - which meant that the tourist scrum had abated, AND there wasn't any pong from the canals in the cooler weather ! Fortunately the week I was there the sky was still an amazing blue and it was quite OK weatherwise - but incoming tides made places like Piazza San Marco very surreal at night ! Plus the water bubbling up through the cathedral floor in the Piazza San Marco ! I couldn't afford a Gondola trip - but the regular cheap big water taxis are great for getting about. It is the most magical place I've ever been - a bit unreal, but in a good eway. Well worth the visit. The only thing I was a bit stunned about was the amount of grafitti disfiguring so many of the walls ! That in a World Heritage Site.

Love your vibrant paintings John, I have not seen Venice since the 70's, but I know enough of it to know how gorgeous and magical it is and it is great to see your idealistic views of it
