Excellent painting John

Many thanks Chris, glad you like it :)

A smasher John

You're very kind Heather, thank you :)

I love the big bold brush strokes, makes me want to reach out and touch a painting when it looks like this, and that sky is just perfect!

Hi Carrie, I know what you mean about big brush strokes, I've seen so many artists use them to great effect and have always admired them :)

Superb summer sky.

Thank you Stephen, I find skies so difficult when it comes to translating how they make me feel :)

I like the way you have the telegraph wires to lead the eye in, I think that's what makes this painting come alive.

Love the painting John you have caught the moment.

Thanks so much Hilary and Bari, lines that lead the eyes into the point of interest..... I'm busted ;)

A very striking scene and composition John.

Tessa I'm delighted you like it :)

Great composition and colours, really captures a sense of place.

Many thanks Emma, you're very kind ☺

You are a demon at painting skies John! I could look and admire your brushstrokes for hours.....wonderful.

Thank you Petra and thank you Fiona... Demon? I like that :)

Good composition, I like the way the service lines draw the viewer into the painting

Excellent composition; although the gate bars part of the way, it doesn't bar all of it, so you still have access to the painting. Your style reminds me somewhat of a current painter from France, one M. Arnould, and of the late Norman Battershill - exactly enough suggestion of detail, not a stroke too many.

You're very kind Frank, Thank you :)

Robert Jones, Thank you for those words and for your interesting observations, I have looked at Norman Battershills work but have to search more thoroughly for M. Arnould :)

Has a hint of Sisley about it.

Thank you Frank, Sisley was incredible so I'm delighted you think so.

The relationship between the sky and the land is captured so well. Real England !

I know what you mean by 'real England' and I'm so glad you think that Leslie :)

The Roman Wall at Silchester is a very beautiful and atmospheric place, I can almost see the Roman soldiers and civilians. As I approach the wall and pass these wonderful cottages I start to feel the magic of the place.
