It’s a stunner Jenny beautifully done, you should think about doing some more pen and wash as your drawing skills are really good.

Sharpened matchsticks!! Presumably stuck in a pen holder? Otherwise they’d be difficult to draw with. But however you made this picture it worked very well.

Nice piece Jenny, particularly like those strong shadows on the road.

Thank you for the encouraging comments! As far as I remember, the matchsticks were wedged in the end of a small bamboo cane, but were difficult to use and didn’t hold much ink, but neither did they blob like some dip pens. It wasn’t something we used regularly.

I remember the idea of matchsticks Jenny, in a split came of some sort! Think I tried it without success. This is really good and has a nice peaceful vibe. 👏🏼

I wonder how you would approach this now Jenny, if not with pen & wash but even as a linocut? It’s a charming scene full of your natural skill…..would love to see it in your stylised approach?

Thanks very much Lynda and Fiona! Fiona, I’ve rather lost interest in doing any new linocuts at the moment, they are a lot of work. I could do this again in my usual style, but am not sure the scene is interesting enough, unless I add a bird or something in the foreground. I now belong to three art groups with six exhibitions to produce new stuff for each year and I’m finding it hard going. I should really take a break from it, but it’s what keeps me motivated most of the time. Haven’t seen any of your lovely linocuts for a while?

The excellence of your linocuts and your attention to detail demand hard work, and I can fully understand your pause. However, my scruffy stuff probably takes a quarter of the time, if that! I don’t have your patience, or talent, to make a good job. I also get what you mean about the work needed for that amount of organisation…..6 exhibitions……I found sorting myself out for just the one arduous. You have my sympathy in that respect. Keep doing something Jenny because it’s lovely to see your very unique creations and style on the gallery.

Thanks, Fiona, you are always so supportive, I really appreciate it! I don’t think your linocuts are in the least bit scruffy, I’ve really liked all those you’ve posted, please do some more. And yes, I will keep going - I expect like a lot of us on POL, art is a very welcome distraction from the madness going on around us - it takes you, if only briefly, to a far happier place.
