I struggle to understand composition, despite reading many articles about it. Yours seems well balanced to my eye and I love the bold contrasts of the orange and green which contrast beautifully. Diana

Thanks, Diana. To be honest, I never usually think much about composition when planning a painting, it's fairly instinctive. I've read articles about it, but it all seems rather too prescriptive most of the time.

Acrylic ink collage. At a recent art club evening we had a talk on composition, and the lecturer (an ex school teacher) commented that before he let his new students loose on their own work he always set them a task of producing a balanced composition using just three shapes - a circle, triangle and square or rectangle, together with colour and texture. Thought it sounded an interesting (if rather unexciting!) challenge so thought I'd have a go. This was my effort - not sure how successful it is, but something a bit different to try.
