You have finalised a great painting Jenny beautiful

She looks marvellous Jenny, a very unusual composition and very lovely.

Many thanks, Dennis and Margaret! (Meant to add that it was inspired by the work of one of the Scottish Colourists, J.D. Fergusson, I really like his work.)

Love the unusual format Jenny, always envious of your style. I like J Fergusons work, saw some of his paintings at an exhibition in Kirkcudbright a couple of years ago...stunning! He was one of my art teachers tutors at the Glasgow school of art when he studied there.

Your work is so distinctive and so recognisable as yours. The pastel colours and designs are fresh and appealing. I like the way the lady blends into the background

Thanks, Fiona - I'd love to see some of his paintings "in the flesh" - we had a talk on the Scottish Colourists at an art club evening, and Fergusson's style really appealed to me. Another of our guest speakers said she had a number of his paintings, I believe there was a family connection of some sort. I was going to try doing a landscape in his style, but never got round to it - must have a go, even though landscapes aren't really my thing!

Thanks, Diana, it's probably the kind of work I most like doing - I've never been very interested in traditional watercolour painting (probably because I'm not very good at it!)

Love how she emerges from the tulip pattern Jenny. Wonderful design.

Thank you, Carole!

Nothing wrong with this that I can see, Jenny. Like all your paintings, there's such a fabulous design element that makes this piece so attractive. And love your palette too.

Thanks very much, Seok. (The face isn't as symmetrical as I'd like - it still bothers me now, but too late to change it!)

I made a mistake ref J Fergusson teaching my tutor....I was mixing him up with J Cunningham, who is also one of the colourist...I think! Lol But it was J Fergussons work at the gallery I saw.

Hi Fiona, thanks for clarifying - I've actually spent some time this afternoon looking at more of Fergusson's work - and also discovered the gorgeous still life paintings of Peploe - I hadn't really been aware of his work before - very colourful and stylish. I believe both Fergusson and Peploe were influenced by the work of the Fauvists. It's given me plenty of inspiration to try something a bit different, but in a style that I think would suit my way of working. Not familiar with Cunningham, will have to look him up.

I love Peploes work, I did a couple last year I think as part of my art class. The tutor is a huge fan of all the colourist so I have been influenced by him.....I've even started to quite like the work of Cezanne!

Watercolour. One of a series of paintings I did a few years ago - I had put it to one side because I couldn't seem to get the face right, but have had a fiddle with it and think it's now improved.

I paint mainly in watercolour, often including other media such as pen and ink, pastel or collage. My main interest is in colour and design and most of my work is quite stylised and often illustrative. I enjoy experimenting with acrylic inks, particularly using cling film to create texture, and…
