A New Year resolution...

A great start Jenny, it's an eye catching design! It's good to try different things you never know where it may lead. Look forward to seeing more.

Thanks, Christine. I was thinking of deleting this and starting again as the top right hand corner doesn't line up properly and it's really annoying me! Oh well, never mind, it's only really a practice piece.

Good for you Jenny, let's all get creative in 2016.

A great New Years resolution, getting creative is what it's all about, and as said a good start with this one, looking forward to seeing some more.

Thank you, Alan and Andre. I hope by putting my resolution in print it will force me to follow through on it - so often I decide to try something new, then get distracted by my usual, familiar way of working and forget all about my good intentions!

Jenny you&#39;re doing better than me for keeping your New Year&#39;s resolution, I had only been up for ten minutes before I broke mine!lol<br />Oh well, there&#39;s always next year.<br /><br />What a great idea and experiment, love the sharp relief on the dark background it really is striking. I bought some different coloured handmade papers and coloured inks to experiment with, it will be interesting to see these ideas evolve.<br />There are some really good packs of the soft cut lino available on ebay, very reasonable too. I bought a pack of ten pieces for almost the same price as one piece from my nearest art shop.

Thanks, Fiona, for the tip on the soft-cut lino - I&#39;ve only just discovered that it&#39;s now available in a softer version, should make life a lot easier! I think I&#39;ll also get a selection of inks and coloured papers to play around with.

I am with you on this Jenny. I too, would like to be more experimental this year. You have made a good start with this eye catching design.

Great on the dark background Jenny, it&#39;s lovely to try something new.

Thanks, Julie and Carole, for your encouraging comments.

I don't usually make New Year resolutions, but have made one this year, to be more experimental with my painting and try new things - some abstracts, acrylic inks and lino cuts. I love lino cuts for the bold simple designs you can achieve with them and, inspired by Fiona's recent lino cuts, dug my old lino cutting kit out of the cupboard. Not used since school days, the ink was solid and I could only find one small square of lino, already cut, so used this to make a print, of sorts, on black paper using white acrylic and a little added colour. A bit messy, but at least it's a start! Here's to a happy and successful painting year ahead for everyone.
