Thank you everyone. I loved the way the shape of the ripples and bank echoed the shape of the avocet's beak and plumage, so that was what inspired the painting.

Love everything about this Jackie....you've captured the birds elegance so well! I feel it has a contemporary factor that will appeal to all, rather than just bird enthusiasts (which isn't easy when painting birds). Enjoyed all your gallery :-)

This is simply lovely, Jackie...I'm off to look at your gallery now. Great about your commission. It is such a wide ranging subject which has been dealt with fairly extensively. I wonder how you will go about bringing something fresh to it? I shall watch with interest...do keep us informed...and I will hope to make any suggestions that I can.

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge has a new area where you can get close to wading birds. It's a fantastic place to sketch and I'm loving my time there. I've done a lot of sketches from the live birds, taken some reference photos and this was the resulting image. Hope you like it!
