I agree the combination of colours is stunning and the composition works wonderfully, well done Jackie.

I like watching the woodpigeons in our garden, we have a pair that live very close by, and have often thought of painting them but haven't attempted to yet. You have certainly done your pair justice with the sun and shadows and as William says the compostition works wonderfully.

a delightful painting, well done

It is the colours that make this painting for me. Those delicious grey/blues - just delightful.

Lovely composition. Muted greens and blossom give an almost Japanese feel. Your picture captures the beauty in the commonplace.

Unique piece, very beautiful...

A real beauty! I agree with all that's been said - the colours, composition ..... well done.

I like it. The shadows on the birds, great.

It's lovely - the colors, the shapes and the composition. Everything works together really well.

Fabulous painting. Capturing the light always results in a fantastic painting - and you have done that here. Well done indeed. jx

Strict accuracy to the plumage doesn't matter at all, you're not doing a nature study for reference, after all; and it's accurate enough for me - we get an awful lot of interbred woodies round here, whose plumage varies. Point is, it's a lovely painting - wonderful play of light and shade, radiates warmth and colour.

I have taken many photographs of woodpidgeons in the Ash in my garden. They are such companionable pairs, and the tree branches literally shake and bow when they land ( Must be because their crrops are so stuffed with the grain pinched from my feeders!!) I have one photo very similar to this which I intend one day to turn into a painting, but I love the freedom of your interpretation and as Robert says, the play of light here is wonderful.

I don't usually find woodpigeons inspiring, but on this occasion I loved the combination of colours between birds and habitat as the light filtered through the branches. I tried not to be too much a slave to scientific accuracy of plumage but instead to capture the gentle atmosphere of a spring day. Acrylic. 38 x 40 centimetres.
