This is great, Ian. Exellent tonal values, sympathetic colours, and a wonderful light on the water.

I like this, but think it's a bit of a shame the picture is divided in half by the jetty and I feel stronger tones on the boats would have brought them forward a bit more and pushed the rest back. But some lovely sky and water techniques.

Thank you both for your comments. I am finding this all rather bewildering. I have been fighting the demons that inhabit my computer and still do not know what 'blog' means. This is my first such communication. Pressing wrong buttons eliminated some things that should not have been deleted and I apologise for that. I will try to improve gradually. Ian

What a lovely picture. The sunlight streaming through the clouds onto the white sails is lovely. Personally I wouldn't wan the boats any stronger; y they stand well as they are. I may have made the cliff a little shorter so it didn't come so far into the picture but it still works ok. By the way a Blog is a diary, no more no less. If you want to do one you can sign up from the menu bar on the left but not everyone bothers. Do join the forum though, you will find it very friendly with some great ideas. Just click on the word forum and it tells you how to join and how to post.

I dont think the jetty devides the page in half, on the contrary it allows the eye to wander from the boats around the jetty and beyond to the fabulous light effects.I also agree with sally that the boats tones are right, and I feel their positions do justice to the composition. well done ian.

The great thing with this sort of painting ,which is of nowhere in particular ,is that everyone is right. Never the less your comments are greatly appreciated, thank you.
