That's a super sheep. The fleece looks nice and soft and the grass/wildflowers are lovely.

Lovely painting Ian, the sheep looks great

The sheep looks good and the grass but the wall lets it down for me Ian .

Cheers for all of your comments, I know what you mean about the wall, I was trying to get away from the detail and focus of the background / foreground and concentrate on the sheep itself/ Really I just wanted the wall as something in the background, and in doing so it's neither here nor there... ho hum. Still, she is a great looking sheep!

She certainly is a great looking sheep, and the foreground works extremely well.

Just lovely. I really like the expression - a little befuddled and curious, it's great!

Brilliant work.

Oil on canvas 18"x14" Swaledale Ewe, After 'steves sheep' I was so happy with that one, I wanted to do another, bigger version, this time with a more regular composition. I still had the reservations about clichees but these were soon kicked into touch as I really got into the painting. It was painted from a photo taken back in june and has been on the go for about 2 months off and on, but realistically done in three sittings. I started with the head and the face, then went wild with the fleece, and I suppose the wall and the grass was put in really as an afterthought.
