You have lovely studies in your portfolio Ian. I particularly like this one - the subdued colours a really gentle and harmonious. I have never seen a Snipe, and you make them look most appealing.

Thanks for your comment Julie. Yes, they are fairly elusive little blighters, even when you know they're there its generally only their movement that gives them away - so good is their camouflage...

Fantastic picture Ian, made me realise how far I have to go.

This is glorious. My eye was drawn to the spikes: the pattern of grass spikes and longer beak spike. The limited palette works brilliantly. And most of all the grace and character of the bird is utterly lovely. I love this.

WS Oil on Board 8" x 10", From photos and sketches at Leighton Moss, Lancs...It was a real treat to see these secretive birds amongst the reeds at this RSPB reserve. Spent an entire morning sketching them, and admittedly they are not the most photogenic of creatures, but a real treasure to paint, although they are not as colourful as many others its their camouflage which really appeals...
