‘Magical Mystery Tour’

The song referred to McCartneys memories of Liverpudlians holidaying on coach tours. He also stated that the lyrics, ‘Roll up!’, referred to rolling up a joint and the ‘ it’s waiting to take you away’ is the drug trip. My painting of the foreground and background in shapes was similar to how the cartoon/film was drawn - a state of surreal experiences.

I think your considered painting is really good and the whole series has been great

This is great Spencer. I love the way you have painted the Beatles. A great addition to a super series.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments Heather and David. I really do appreciate it!

Great Spencer. As always.

Thank you so much for your kind comments, Stephen, Sylvia and Chris.

The Beatles were very influential to my generation Spencer and I wowed at this film when I first saw it. Lovely to see your painting, a reminder of my past.

Well done Spencer, I remember watching the film as a child, when it was shown in black a white and I still have the double EP of The Beatles music featured. Didn’t understand the film but the music was great.

Thank you very much for your great comments Frank, Andrew and Coral. Much appreciated.

You’ve captured the essence of the song and period so well Spencer

Brilliantly put together and interpreted Spencer ……the idea and the painting.

Thank you so much Fiona. So pleased that you liked it.

This painting is not quite how I saw it in my mind, in the same way Lennon didn’t feel the song lived up to the vision in his head. The song written in 1967 as the title of a television film of the same name is really based on the experience of an LSD drug trip the group experienced. I used the central image from a picture on google but altered it as I developed the painting. It’s painted in watercolour but I added some crystals for a bit of bling and reference to the crystals of drugs.
