A beautiful painting Frank , I’ve found a atomiser quite essential over the last month or so as without it the paint drys before it can be blended or manipulated over the paper.

That open area on the right effectively balances the closed impression you'd otherwise get with a path through trees: I do like an escape route! Something yearning about those trees, to, as they reach imploringly to the sky.

Very nice piece. The shadows made by the sunlight through the trees are captivating.

Thank you everyone for commenting. Paul, I use an atomiser with gouache too. Robert, I see what you mean about an escape route. Andrew, I think the dancing shadows are my favourite part of the work

It’s been quite few years since I used watercolour paints, especially this loose. I have to admit that I was inspired the amazing watercolour demonstration in The Artist (August 2023) by Grahame Booth. I used an atomising spray to wet the paper before painting and at various stages during the work. Hestercombe Gardens in the bluebell season
