It may be your first attempt but it's very successful - I do like it - very Turneresque

Agree with Michael in every respect. Very eyecatching.

You are both very kind, Michael and Val. I think perhaps there wasn't quite enough expanse of colour in this sunset, so am trying another one with more of the beautiful golds/oranges/reds in the sky and trying to work out how much and which bits to glaze to get the effects. An interesting process...

Has a bit of Turner about it Jane. Lovely use of colour..

Well done, Jane. For a first attempt this is very good. Too much detail may have spoilt what you were trying to create, in my opinion. One thing I may have done is move your brightest part of the painting a tad to the right of where it is now to put it in the 'golden mean'......although that may be as a result of the photo.

Alan, thanks for your suggestion - I agree that it would have been better had the brightest part been slightly more to the right, so will remember that the next time around. It's constructive comments like this that are so useful on this site, and why I post my paintings. I have much to learn, and there are so many here with far greater knowledge than I have, so thank you again!

I have absolutely no idea how I missed this one, Jane! This is really, really super. Your colors are gorgeous, moving seamlessly into each other, and the flash of light at the horizon is brilliantly done. It's a beautiful painting indeed! Thank you too for your very kind comment on my painting.

We have the same title for one of our paintings! I like the little touches of bright light - mine was "alla prima" but I used glazes for another painting "Lightening Skies" after a course with Martin Kinnear which was excellent. Thanks for your kind comments.

I went on an introductory course with Martin in June and, like you, found it a wonderful experience. I'd never used glazes much before but found it fascinating. I hope to go on another course next year, perhaps "Seascapes". It must have had an effect on me because I haven't put down my paintbrush much since (though painting in a variety of ways). The course just seemed to inspire me.

This is my kind of painting - I love using glazes - You have stopped painting just at the right moment-lovely

Jane, I know you put this on POL last year, but as a newcomer permit me to add my praise to the many above. I was at the Turner and contemporaries exhibition at the Abbot Hall Museum in Kendal last month, and everything about your painting took me back to that visit. Really very impressive!

Such an attractive painting with the flash of light in the distance. Wonderful!

This is a delight Jane, like it so much. Very inspiring.
