Old Barn with Chain

Old Barn with Chain

I have never used these pencils - looks too much like hard work for a lazy person like me! I like the rusty chain-links

You've rendered lovely textures and tones, Carole. It's lovely!

Super texture in those rusty chain links Carole, not easy in pencil as I know to my cost :)

Thanks Jenny, Seok and Val, you are very kind to comment on this one! ;o)

Details like this often get overlooked I think you've done a good job,.

It's good Carole, you have patience and from the sound of it, strength! All credit as well for choosing a difficult subject, the rusty chain is excellent. After reading your comment on Seok's, I have to ask, do you have a pet mackerel?..LOL

This IS a change! I love the subject (surprising ?!!) and you've depicted that rusty chain beautifully.

Great painting Carole, great colours and textures

Hi Carole, not the easiest subject, especially with this back ground, but love this form of subject. Possibly next time, try using a black support. Love your portfolio. If you haven't yet looked, check out the UKCPS & Coloured pencil topic web sites.

Oh thanks all for your generous comments, you made my day. Peter that's a good idea! save my poor arm ;o) Louise, 'fraid I don't have a pet mackerel, but might get one soon......... :o)) I could always paint it purple...........

I'm afraid I might think of you in future as 'that Carole with the pet mackerel' ....LOL

Long as I don't smell like one! :o(

All that black is hard to deal with but makes a wonderful foil for the rusty chain in front of it. A nice detail from this building and one that has allowed you to explore the different textures and materials. Great work, Carole.

Carole, I admire anyone who can produce anything with pencils, I have tried but failed miserably! You've done a terrific job of the chain and I applaud you for trying a subject as unusual as this one.

Thanks Thea and thanks Fiona. These are heavy and waxy pencils not easy for me!

This is different for you Carole, change is good, great drawing

Thank you for your kind words on my portfolio Carole. I have been browsing yours, and you have some really beautiful work. I really like this rusty chain and your coloured pencil flowers, particularly the carnation. Peter Nelson is right, if you haven't already, check out the UKCPS website. If you click on the picture on the home page, you may still be able to see all the shortlisted entries to the 2014 open Exhibition, a wide range of styles and subjects... I am mentioning this because I think your lovely work would look really good on the walls of the 2015 exhibition! Keep pencilling Carole and thanks again!

Thank you Andrea for your kind words. I do not use col pencils very much as watercolour is my first love. Sometimes I combine the two media. I would not be able to compete with the wonderful work shown on UKCPS! I will take a look through the entries though thanks for telling me about it and a big thanks for looking through my work.

Hi Carole, This must have been hard to construct, but is nevertheless a credit to you. An interesting subject. You have the unique talent of giving vitality to all your work. Apologies for commenting on one of your older pieces, but there's just so much good stuff that you've done.

Thanks again Ian, so kind of you to leave these lovely comments. Thanks.

Hi Carole. Forgive me commenting on the 2014 portfolio, but I must say you've tackled this subject which must have been a challenge, and rendered a strikingly beautiful result, if one could apply such adjective to a rusted chain. Just goes to show, with natural talent such as yours, anything is workable. Really well done.

Coloured pencil (waxy Prismacolour) Not used to this much, the shadowy black made my arm ache, hard work! Not very good but as Satu says..... I thought I would share :)
