Messy pen & wash!!

Messy pen & wash!!
Comments

It is actually very beautiful , and i like the colour contrast a lot...

It's the free and expressive ones which are the best and this is definitely that. Always a good thing to look back at what you have done in the past and see it with fresh eyes.

A very spontaneous and atmospheric pen and wash. I like it!!

I think it IS a bit messy, but it still has vigour and strength and I like it; oddly enough I've been doing the same as you - ploughing through piles of old paintings in mildewed files: and one or two of them aren't at all bad... because they're not too careful, too considered, too 'oh God don't let me make a mistake!'; it is SO useful to keep your old work and return to it, because you can nearly always tell just where you started to tighten up and become neurotic about it (I speak for myself on the neurotic front, obviously!). I've found it immensely useful in these last few weeks to do just this, encouraged by a) a feeling that I'd reached a dead-end, and b) a request from my brother for a birthday present of a very old painting of mine: I didn't feel I could really fob him off with the original, an oil sketch on oil-painting paper, but I've recreated it, in the same dimensions, in both oil and Chromacolour - it was a total revelation. Anyway, for a comment this has been a lot more about me than about you, I'm afraid... but I think there's so much to gain by taking another look at old work that perhaps it was worth rattling on....

I like this, the seeping of the watercolour and ink. Really interesting sketch.

I like this too, Fiona. I like the way the colors blended and the spontaneity of it.

Thank you all very much for your comments. I didn't expect the positive feedback about this scribble at all. I considered this as one of my very BAD old ones and it is interesting to compare it to the pictures that I have posted recently. I hope I have improved just a little!!!:) Thanks again.

Yay! Glad you found it Fiona. I really like these sorts of work - I love the spontaneity and vigour that they show. Quite often people find it very hard to be expressive in their work - it is difficult to throw your all into a piece - but invariably the results can be very rewarding and very revealing! I really like this piece. I like the sense of movement, of fresh air, of open space. Glad you found it and posted it! Do you have your own website or Facebook page?

Fiona, I really like this.

Thank you Martin & Louise, I think I might have to do more 'Messy scribbles'....!

Not messy....experimental!! I actually like the way the ink has bled with the addition of water. Great little piece! Jx

Thank you Jean, very much.

I like that Fiona, abstract and unresolved in places and full of expressive marks. Thanks for coming to my gallery and leaving your kind comment.

More more more messy scribbles.

Fiona I have been having a browse through your portfolio, Like the others I think this shows vigour and freshness. I like yourexperimental approach to painting and you have inspired me to get out there and do more" free" sketching. I love using Pitt pens and watercolour and the way they can bleed uncontrollably into the colour. - Must dig out some of the old sketchbooks Manus
