Dare I ask how long this took you to complete? You must have had a real passion for the subject, because the research alone must have taken you hours of work before you even picked up a brush. A real tribute to this historic roadway and city, and to an era.

Dear Robert, Many thanks for taking an interest in my painting of Chicago and "Route 66". The painting took me about 3 weeks but most of the time I spent researching the older 1930s rigg with the paintings I did on the back of the truck of the gangsters having a shoot out with the Chicago police dept. I went over to the USA in 2006 which was the 80th anniversary of the opening of the road I travelled the whole length of the road from Chicago to Santa Monica, California. I took photos of the city from a distance and the photo from the highway bridge I did manage to get a photo of the old rigg but then the hardest part of the painting was to make sure that all the heavy trucks and cars were to the right scale, I have to admit here that on several occasions I got the scale wrong so I had to paint out the vehicles and start again it can be very frustrating at times but if the scale was wrong then the picture would not work. Thank you again for your interest. eaves.

fantastic! must have taken hours to paint this its so detailed!

Dear Emma, In answer to your comments yes it did take me quite some time but I would much rather take time on a painting than just try and dash one off I do like to paint something a little bit unusual although I must admit there are times when I get too involved and wish I could start on another one. eaves.

To celebrate the 80th. anniversary of the opening of route 66 the new highway across the USA, starting out from Chicago to Santa Monica California. The buildings of downtown Chicago are exactly to scale and I painted an older vintage heavy rigg with pictures of gangsters having a shoot out with police and also a car of that same era.The more modern truck on the left side of the picture is using Chicago's image of the mobster days of Al Capone back in the prohibition days. Size of painting 30"x 20".
